E se for o inverso? Tens tosse? Foste assaltado? Muda a fechadura e reza!

Changes by Carolina

Introduction

I’ve changed a lot in the past five years. I think different, I do different things, I dress different and I look different.

Likes and dislikes

I didn’t use to care much about music, TV shows or films and I used to read childish books. Now I’m more interested in that kind of entertainment and I read more adult books.

School

Five years ago, I didn’t go to the same school I go now. I was at primary school. My favourite subject was Portuguese, but now I prefer Sciences. Now there’s a lot of work to do, more than five years ago. Now there’s several times more teachers than five years ago, when there was just one.

Appearance

I used to wear short hair. I didn’t use to wear many kinds of accessories, just some earrings, but now I love wearing jewellery, scarves and so on. My style changed too, because my mum used to choose me smart clothes, but now I choose my own clothes, so I have a casual style.

Conclusion

I think my life is cooler now than it was five years ago. Although I have to work harder, I’m more independent, I think for myself in every way, however sometimes I ask for my mum’s opinion too.

Changes by Nicole

I have changed a lot since I was a child. I look different, I do different things and I have different opinions.
My hair used to be short and straight, now it is curly and very long. My style of clothes hasn’t changed too much: I still wear sporty jeans and a T-shirt, with no make-up.
My habits are different too: a couple of years ago, I used to get up at half past eight because I only had school at nine o’clock, now I’m in the 8th grade and school has become harder. I have to get up at seven not to be late. My favourite school subject was Portuguese, but now I prefer History.
I used to do a lot of sports, but now I only go running with my dad at the weekends.
I made my real friends too, that are constantly helping me without waiting for anything in return.
Now I feel more independent and able to make some decisions. I also have to work harder, but for a good goal. I think I have really grown up in terms of attitudes and the way of thinking.

MY TOWN - 50 YEARS AGO AND NOW

I live in a small town in the south of Portugal, Évora; fifty years ago the town was a bit different.
It was smaller and the buildings used to be new and much smaller. There didn`t use to be big buildings. Now the buildings are bigger, more modern and there is an ecologic and aesthetic worry about them. The shops were smaller and in the centre of the town and people used to know their owners. Nowadays there are shopping centres with big stores and nobody really knows who the property owners are.
Transport has changed too. Fifty years ago people used to travel on foot to reach places in the town or by train if they had to do something out of the town, because almost anybody had a private transport, like cars. Now almost everyone has his own car, but the aged people still go to places on foot, although nowadays we have buses.
My grandparents say that fifty years ago there wasn’t much to do, although there was a cinema, a theatre and men used to meet in the Arcada’s café. The theatre and the café are still there, but now there isn’t any cinema, yet! On the other hand, nowadays there are lots of sport clubs, night clubs and restaurants where people meet.
In conclusion, people were closer and everyone knew everything about the others, however, in my opinion, privacy is better.

I’m Nicole and I’m thirteen years old. I live in Évora with my parents and my two brothers.
No one in my family actually lived in Évora, in fact, my parents were the first ones to come to this city, in 1995. According to what some people told me, the place where I live used to be a camp full of trees. It must have been amazing!
Fifty years ago, everybody knew each other and it was save going through the streets; now, we have to be very careful and people’s relationships are not the same. In my opinion, fifty years ago people gave more value to things. Now, children don’t know what it is like playing the mixer or the joy of playing hide and seek.
Fifty years ago, there were no mobile phones, computers or mp3. A simple kid could do a ball of rags. At the time, those who didn’t have a car, had to walk for hours, but now we have so many ways of travelling.
Fifty years ago, there were no sport centers or night clubs. People went to the theatre or to the cinema. Even the clothes have changed: Fifty years ago, women often wore dresses and men wore very elegant suits. At that time, the music that reigned was rock, like The Beatles; now there are so many opportunities and everyone can show their talent.
In conclusion, I think that life was quieter then and the opportunities were less, but if I had to choose, I would prefer to live fifty years ago!

Now there are some blocks of flats. People used to travel by train but now they drive their cars and there is a motorway.
50 years ago there was a cinema, now there is a sports centre and an amusement arcade.
In conclusion, life was very different, but in my opinion it's better now.

O casamento real
